Parada Maimon: Reviews & Ratings
The food is always good, but I've had two different experiences the two times I ordered from them. We have a work program where we have to order thru Uber Eats, for delivery only, so this is my second time having them and I have not been to the store yet. The first time, I was craving ropa vieja, so I ordered the "Beef Stewed, from the "a La Carte" section, with a description that says, "served in separate containers" for $15. It came with rice and beans, which surprised me, because it said "a la carte," but made sense that it would be a complete platter, considering the price and the note about it being served in separate containers. I also ordered a salad and a tres leches cake. The was perrrrrfect. The meat was so tender and so flavorful. The rice and beans were perfect. The salad was just a large container of lettuce with tomatoes on top. Nothing else, not even dressing, so I made a mental note not to buy that the next time. The cake was ok. But it was still a 5 star meal bc it was una bandera (a complete lunch plate) and it was delicious. Today, I ordered the grilled chicken breast, from the same "a La Carte" section of the menu for $17. And I decided to add a side of "vegetables" instead of ordering a salad this time. I had my heart set on that rice and beans. When my lunch arrived, the bag was soaked thru from the chicken being packaged poorly, and the only thing in the bag was a container with two chicken breasts, a container of lettuce and tomatoes, and a side of dressing. Devastating, but, i don't know if it was a mistake or not, bc the section IS called "a la carte." The chicken is SO good, tho. I just don't know what to make of it. Which is the standard? WITH the rice and beans, or without? I would eat this every day if it came with the rice and beans.
I was visiting Philly about 4 weeks ago and needed some Latin food. I found Parada Maimon was close. I had arroz blanco con frijoles and pernil for lunch. Despite being on the salty side it was very good. I would have liked to have aguacate and tostones to go with it. They had a nice selection of food dishes, good atmosphere, nice service. I would have given a better rating if the beans and pernil wasn’t so salty and if aguacate and/or tostones where offered. However, still a good place to get your Latin food dishes
Homecooked, filling, DELICIOUS. I ordered the cerdo guidado and it came with rice, beans. I also ordered super tasty maduros, sweet plantain. SO good. Great prices (see menu).
This place is one of the most authentic Dominican restaurants I've been to so far! From the decor, the friendly staff and the food, everything was fantastic! Definitely looking forward to come back! Highly recommend!
I was here for a sorority conference, and a small group of women who are ethnically Haitian were looking for food to eat ( it was definitely a struggle of finding food we liked in downtown Philly). Well we happened upon this place and had a wonderful time. Our group had women from throughout the Southern states, and some Eastern states....... and we were shook it to find a genuine Haitian / Dominican restaurant with the most delicious food!! This is where we decided to eat throughout the week, and it was a simple walk away from our downtown hotel.
I have eaten here many times during the time I have spent here in Philadelphia… I will be leaving Philly shortly, so I felt compelled to write a review about this restaurant…. Although I have basically tasted the entire menu, I would say that their Rabo Encendido (oxtail stew) has always been a standout; the meat falls off the bone and it is submerged in a rich, deeply seasoned sauce. Their Pollo Guisado (specially the family combo was always a home run)… If you’re looking for something that’s definitely a Dominican plate, I would recommend the Mofongo con Chicharrón, which I recommend eating it in house to enjoy it hot (don’t have this delivered)…. Make sure to get it with the accompanying broth (can be a little garlicky FYI). As far as the ppl that work there…. Every single time the service was attentive and warm—the staff truly made us feel like family… The prices are more than reasonable for the generous portions, though parking in this area can be a bit tricky because of the proximity to the city center. nonetheless, it’s a must-visit for anyone craving authentic Dominican home cooking.
If you find yourself in Callowhill/Spring Garden/Center City very hungry, in a bit of a rush, and wanting to feel like a human being, Parada Maimon is a must. Even without those conditions, it’s a great choice. Their food is delicious, the atmosphere is cozy, the value is unmatched. There have been multiple occasions where this restaurant has taken me from stressed and hangry to full and relaxed. I tend to get roast pork with rice and beans, but I have never been upset with anything I’ve ordered.
My Dominican friend Manny took me here to experience Dominican cuisine. Service was phenomenal. Everyone was pleasant and warm and inviting. The food was absolutely amazing. We got two whole fish each. They were battered and fried to perfection. The natural juice and lemonade were both delicious. I had some yellow rice and poured some beans over top. I will definitely be back. Thoroughly enjoyed everything about this place!!!!
